In relation to other comments - I reckon it is the change in dimensions inside the snail shape that leads to the change in ranging. Only needs a very small diameter change to get the change in wheel movement. Views not based on any look inside a scope just drawings that have been posted in varous places. Someone might able to calculate the effect given dimensions of scopes internals.
All i know is dean, ive owned three mk1 nikkos and they all ranged under in cold weather, and the mk3 nikko i own does the same, but i adjust the side wheel from summer to winter to compensate so im all ways ranging spot on..
