Royal Mail - good news for airgunners and the trade
Royal Mail has informed BASC that low powered airguns, their components and accessories, imitation firearms, antique firearms and deactivated firearms will continue to be carried in the post as is currently the case. From 14th January onwards Royal Mail will also allow the carriage of airgun and airsoft pellets in the post.
This is good news for airgunners and the trade as it follows a recent Royal Mail consultation on proposals to ban the transportation of all guns and their component parts. That consultation sparked a massive response from shooters and the trade who objected to the proposals.
During and after that consultation BASC held a series of meetings and discussions with both Royal Mail and its regulator Offcom. BASC welcomes these clarifications but there is still much work ahead as a revised consultation may take place in 2013 on the carriage of shotguns, rifles and their component parts.
