Hi G on the air rifle stripper the slots are cut with the top facing towards the stock
on ported barrels the slots are cut with the top or open end facing the muzzle
so the air in a( air rifle stripper) is deflected by the cone it then hits the end
of the stripper and then comes back out through the slots towards the shooter
a ported barrel on the other hand just allows some of the gasses to pass up
through the slot away from the shooter helping force the gun back down
on to aim this of course happens after the bullet has left the barrel
